My favorite genre

My favorite genre to write in is actually not instrumental music. It is the genre that Norwegians call “vise.” It is kind of the equivalent of the German “Lied” or the French “mélodie,” short little songs with poetic lyrics, almost like poems set to music.

I have been very inspired by the Norwegian “vise”-author Alf Prøysen. So many of his “viser” have become classics in Norway, and often evoke a simple, everyday poetic beauty.

I love writing in this genre, I think it has become the genre I find the most rewarding to write in.
